When these terms apply
These terms apply whenever you browse Stateclan, create an account, publish a topic, answer or reply, upload a photo, contact another member, report content, or use another Stateclan feature.
By creating an account or using a signed-in feature, you agree to these terms and the Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, you may still read public pages but must not use an account or contribute content.
Who may use an account
Stateclan is intended for people aged 18 and over. You must be legally able to agree to these terms and must not use the service if the law prevents you from doing so.
You must provide truthful account information, including a working recovery email and the location details requested during sign-up. Do not create an account for another person without their permission or pretend to be a person, organisation, official, or business that you are not.
What Stateclan provides
Stateclan is a public community knowledge service for questions and answers about places across Nigeria. It helps people discover local conversations by country, state, city or town, category, status, and recency.
Stateclan is not an emergency service, news authority, employer, estate agent, professional adviser, seller, payment processor, escrow service, or guarantor. A topic or answer appearing on Stateclan does not mean that Stateclan has approved the person, claim, product, property, job, or service mentioned.
Your account responsibilities
- Keep your password, verification links, and one-time codes private, and sign out of devices you do not control.
- Use your account honestly, do not impersonate anyone, and keep your recovery email and current public location reasonably accurate.
- Tell Stateclan promptly if you believe someone else has used your account.
- You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it occurred after you gave reasonable notice that the account had been compromised.
- Do not sell, transfer, lend, or share an account, or use another person’s account without permission.
Public contributions
Topics, answers, replies, profile details, and attached photos may be public and searchable. Think carefully before publishing personal information. Search engines and other people may copy or link to public material, so removal from Stateclan cannot guarantee immediate removal from every outside copy or cache.
You keep ownership of content you create and remain free to use it elsewhere.
When you publish it, you give Stateclan permission, without requiring payment, to host, store, copy, format, display, organise, search, index, share through Stateclan pages, and preserve that content for the purpose of operating and improving the service.
This permission ends when the content is fully deleted from Stateclan, except for protected backups, records that must be retained, and public contributions that the service lawfully keeps without identifying you.
What you promise when you post
- You created the content or have permission to share it.
- The content does not violate another person’s privacy, copyright, trade mark, or other legal rights.
- Any location, date, category, photo, or factual claim you add is not deliberately misleading.
- You will not post private documents, financial records, identity numbers, intimate images, or another person’s contact details without a lawful and genuine reason and their permission.
- If you have a personal or commercial connection to a recommendation, you will make that connection clear.
Conduct that is not allowed
- Harassment, bullying, hateful conduct, threats, stalking, sexual exploitation, or content that puts a child or vulnerable person at risk.
- Fraud, impersonation, fake reviews, deceptive links, phishing, requests for passwords or one-time codes, or pressure to transfer money.
- Sharing private information to intimidate, shame, identify, locate, or harm someone.
- Spam, repeated posts, irrelevant promotion, undisclosed advertising, referral schemes, artificial voting, or attempts to manipulate visibility or community feedback.
- Instructions or material that meaningfully helps someone commit violence, theft, fraud, unauthorised access, or another unlawful act.
- Malware, automated scraping, excessive automated requests, attempts to bypass access controls, or interference with the reliability or security of Stateclan.
- Using Stateclan in a way that breaks applicable law or encourages another person to do so.
Goods, services, jobs, and accommodation
Genuine questions about where to find a product or service, a place to live, a job, or a local provider are welcome when they follow the Community Guidelines. Genuine answers and recommendations are also welcome.
Advertisements, repetitive sales pitches, fake endorsements, undisclosed paid recommendations, lead harvesting, and pressure to move money or personal details off-platform are not allowed. Any arrangement you make with another person is between you and that person. Check identities, prices, documents, licences, ownership, and important claims independently before meeting, paying, or committing.
Contact requests and off-platform communication
A member may send a short private introduction asking to connect. The recipient decides whether to accept and which available contact method to share. Acceptance is voluntary and does not mean that Stateclan endorses either member.
Once communication leaves Stateclan, Stateclan cannot supervise messages, meetings, payments, deliveries, or other arrangements. Do not send money, documents, passwords, or one-time codes merely because someone first contacted you through Stateclan.
Community information is not guaranteed
Local information can become outdated or be incomplete, mistaken, or biased. Stateclan does not guarantee that a community answer is accurate, safe, available, lawful, or suitable for your situation.
Check important claims with a reliable current source. For medical, legal, financial, safety, employment, property, or emergency decisions, use an appropriately qualified professional or authority rather than relying only on a community post.
Reports and enforcement
Members may report content that appears unsafe or against these rules. A report is a request to examine the material; it does not by itself prove wrongdoing. A report is not shown publicly. Authorised staff can access it, and the reporting member may see that the content has already been reported.
To protect members and the service, Stateclan may ask for a correction, add or change a label, limit visibility, lock or remove content, restrict a feature, suspend or ban an account, preserve relevant records, or restore content where appropriate. The response will depend on context, seriousness, history, risk, and available information.
Account closure and content after closure
You may ask for your account to be closed. Stateclan may need to confirm that the request comes from the account owner and may retain limited records where they are needed for security, disputes, or legal duties.
Closing an account does not always remove public contributions. Topics, answers, and replies that remain useful to a public conversation may stay visible with the author shown as a deleted user. Content may also remain for a limited period in protected backups or outside search-engine caches.
Stateclan may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, creates risk, or must be restricted by law. A suspended or banned member may still be able to read public pages while signed-in actions are unavailable.
Service availability and changes
We aim to keep Stateclan reliable, but the service may sometimes be slow, unavailable, changed, or withdrawn because of maintenance, faults, security concerns, legal requirements, or product changes. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that every feature will remain available forever.
Where reasonably possible, we will avoid changes that unfairly remove a right you have already earned or prevent you from retrieving information you are legally entitled to receive.
Responsibility when something goes wrong
You use community information and off-platform arrangements with appropriate care. To the extent the law allows, Stateclan is not responsible for losses caused solely by another member’s statement, an outside website, an off-platform transaction, or a decision made without independently checking important information.
Nothing in these terms removes a consumer or data-protection right that cannot lawfully be removed, or excludes responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude. These terms do not protect Stateclan from its own fraud, deliberate wrongdoing, or other responsibility that must remain under applicable law.
Applicable law and disagreements
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If a disagreement arises, please first give Stateclan enough information to understand the issue and a reasonable opportunity to address it. You may still use any complaint, consumer, data-protection, or court process available to you under Nigerian law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service or law changes. The current version will appear on this page with a new last-updated date. If a change materially affects member rights or duties, we will provide a clearer notice where reasonably possible. Continuing to use signed-in features after the new terms take effect means you accept them.
